The reference design offers a comprehensive solution with advanced features, adaptable design resources, and rapid prototyping, making it perfect for manufacturers seeking to bring innovative air conditioning solutions to market quickly.
Infineon’s reference design REF-AIRCON-C302A-IM564 is designed for the efficient and high-performance drive of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSM) in air conditioner applications. This turnkey solution integrates the company’s IMC302A iMOTION controller, 1ED44175 PFC gate driver, and the PFC-integrated CIPOSTM Mini IPM IM564-X6D. It is optimised for major home appliances such as air conditioner compressors, fans, and pumps, supporting motor and PFC drivers up to 600 V and 20 A.
It utilizes advanced Motion Control Engine (MCE 2.0) technology for precise control of PMSM/BLDC motors, and incorporates an integrated PFC function to enhance energy efficiency. Specifically designed for air conditioners requiring 1400 ~ 2500 W power, this reference design facilitates fast prototyping and a quick time-to-market. It includes comprehensive assembly groups for sensorless field-oriented control (FOC) and offers interfaces for BLDC/AC fan control, relays, 4-way valve control, and 3-channel temperature sensing. The design is equipped with a range of on-board components such as a single-phase AC connector, EMI filter, soft power-up circuit, input rectifier, DC bus capacitors, PFC inductor, emitter shunts for current sensing and overcurrent protection (OCP), thermistor output, and a voltage divider for DC-link voltage measurement.
A CoolSETTM based flyback auxiliary power supply provides 15 V, 12 V, and 5 V outputs, while integrated analog comparators ensure overcurrent protection. The design also supports flexible host interface options for speed commands, including UART, SPI, PWM, or analog signals. Additionally, it has achieved Class B pre-certification (IEC60730) for the MCE2.0 firmware, further solidifying its reliability and performance in motor control applications.
The design is well-suited for driving air conditioner compressors, ensuring efficient and reliable operation. Additionally, the design can be applied to fans and blowers, providing precise control and enhanced performance. Pumps are another application area where this reference design excels, offering robust motor control for various pumping systems. It is also compatible with other high-performance motor drive applications in major home appliances, making it a versatile solution for many motor control needs.
Infineon provides comprehensive design resources to enable customers to customise and adapt the reference design for their specific requirements. These resources include schematics, Gerber files, and Altium design data and more. To view, click here.
